mobile armor

モビルアーマー

A type of mecha from the Gundam series, mobile armors are typically massive, heavily destructive, usually non-humanoid units that dwarf the average mobile suit. While generally much more sluggish than mobile suit, they are typically designed as a weapon of mass destruction (often housing a single mega beam particle cannon in its center), with some even capable of defeating an entire spaceship fleet on its own.

The term is also sometimes used to refer to the alternate forms of certain transforming mobile suits, including the Baund Doc and Methuss.

Mobile armors are depicted fairly consistently throughout the franchise's AU series. The only major exception to this is Gundam SEED, in which the majority of the mobile armors seen are more akin to starfighters.
