battle of midway
The Battle of Midway was a major naval battle in the Pacific theater of World War II that took place on 4-7 June 1942.
The United States Navy managed to score a decisive victory against the Imperial Japanese Navy by sinking four aircraft carriers (Akagi, Kaga, Hiryuu and Souryuu) along with several well-trained pilots. These losses proved crucial for the outcome of the war as Japan was never able to fully replace the ships, the planes and the skilled pilots it needed to win the conflict.
Thus this battle would become the turning point of the Pacific theater of WWII.
