A thin membrane present in the vaginal opening of most women. Depiction of tearing and/or blood from a tearing often is illustrated to indicate an initial ("defloration") sexual intercourse — though tearing is not exclusive to sexual acts, nor is an intact hymen any proof that a person has not engaged in sexual intercourse.
