A popular, long-running role-playing game series by Square Enix.
Final Fantasy first appeared in 1987 in reaction to Enix's Dragon Quest. Contrarily to what is often said, while Square wasn't doing great at the time, the first game wasn't made as a last ditch attempt to save the company. It did end up being a great commercial success and as a result, subsequent titles (each set in a different universe) were published ever since.
