The 2022 FIFA World Cup was the 22nd FIFA World Cup, a tournament for the men's soccer world championship, taking place in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022. It was the first World Cup to take place in the Middle East, the first to be held in autumn in the northern hemisphere, and the first to not be held in either May, June, or July, known to be extremely hot months in Qatar.
Argentina won their third World Cup against France in a 4-2 penalty shootout, after a 3-3 draw in extra time.
Even before the tournament began, it became the focal point of numerous controversies, primarily revolving around allegations of bribery of FIFA officials for the rights to host the tournament, poor treatment of workers (mostly immigrants), and suppression of LGBT rights.
